Local Customs & Etiquette
Madagascar's tourism infrastructure varies greatly between regions. In national parks and wildlife reserves, guides are highly trained and knowledgeable about the unique flora and fauna.
Many lodges have communal tip boxes for general staff, while specialist guides and trackers should be tipped separately. For multi-day treks or circuits, tips are usually given at the end of the experience.
Additional Information
- Bring small denominations of USD or EUR for tips
- Local currency can be difficult to obtain in good condition
- Tips for park guides should be given after each excursion
- Consider tipping more for challenging treks or exceptional wildlife sightings
