Local Customs & Etiquette
South Africa has a well-established tourism industry with clear tipping expectations. In restaurants and cafes, 10-15% is standard if service charge isn't included. For exceptional service, 15-20% is appreciated.
At safari lodges, many have communal tip boxes for general staff, while guides and trackers should be tipped separately. For multi-day safaris, tips are usually given at the end of your stay.
