Safari Tipping Guidelines

Safari Staff

  • Guide/Ranger $15-20 USD per guest per day
  • Tracker $10 USD per guest per day
  • Camp Staff $10 USD per guest per day (communal tip box)
  • Transfer Driver $5-10 USD per transfer

Walking Safari Staff

  • Walking Guide $20 USD per person per walk
  • Armed Scout $10 USD per person per walk
  • Tea Bearer $5 USD per walk

Hotel & Restaurant Tipping

  • Hotel Porter $2 USD per bag
  • Restaurant Server 10% of the bill (if service charge not included)
  • Housekeeping $2-3 USD per night
  • Tour Guide (Victoria Falls) $10-15 USD per person

Local Customs & Etiquette

Zambia is renowned for its walking safaris and exceptional guiding standards. The guides undergo extensive training and are highly knowledgeable about the wildlife and ecosystem.

Many luxury lodges in South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, and Kafue have communal tip boxes for general staff, while guides are usually tipped separately at the end of your stay.
